A Trip to Uganda: Savanna’s Story

This week, we have several team members traveling to Uganda to aid in work happening in refugee camps. We are grateful for their hard work and covering them with prayer as they come alongside pastors and churches who are preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ under difficult circumstances.

Our team is also taking the time to offer humanitarian aid to Uganda. We’re helping those who need medical attention in the refugee camps, as well as ministering to women and coordinating outreach to children and teens. We are expectant that our team will come back with stories of impact to the glory of Jesus!

But this trip is special for two women who are traveling with us this week. Savanna and Wendy are first-timers in traveling with WOE. Because they’ll offer fresh and unique perspective on this trip, we sat down with both of them before they left and asked them a few questions about how they were feeling and what they were looking forward to on this trip.

Savanna’s story is below, and we’ll share Wendy’s later this week! We’ll also be catching up with both women after they get back to hear about all that God did on their travels!

It’s great to meet you, Savanna – tell WOE readers a bit about yourself!

My name is Savanna Coleman, new to With Open Eyes but have loved learning how to helping the ministry in all kinds of capacities; from day to day activities to helping plan a benefit or praying for Mobile Messengers.

What motivated you to go on this trip?

I have always wanted to go on a mission trip and planned to go on this trip originally, but during the beginning of the summer some things in my life weren’t lining up, and I wasn’t going to be able to go. Well, apparently I was supposed to be on this trip! Earlier this month, I found out that I was back on the roster so-to-speak. In rocking back and forth between being able to attend and then not, to being called again-I knew this was God’s plan for me. I was doubtful when it didn’t work out, but continued to pray and couldn’t be more excited.

We love it when the Lord works out the details! The team is thrilled you could make it on this trip. What are you looking forward to experiencing this week?

Looking forward to experiencing? I am so excited just to see God work, in being able to see all the details that go/went into planning this trip it leaves no doubt that God has His hand in this. Being able to share God’s love and spread the word has been on my heart lately so to be able to do so with such an amazing team of men and women, there is no telling what God is going to do.

Amen! With God’s love and His mission in mind, do you have any Scripture that you’re reading in preparation?

I’ve been reading 1 Peter 4:10:

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

It has been a great reminder to me that as God’s children, we are truly called to use the unique talents and gifts He has given us and not just in my day-to-day routine, but various ways. This next week, that form happens to be Uganda.

We hope you enjoyed Savanna’s perspective and anticipation of all that the Lord will do this week with our team in Uganda. We ask that you would continue to keep them in your prayers as they minister and help men, women, and children in refugee camps, for the sake of Jesus.
