3 Ways We Show Appreciation for Our Mobile Messengers

Here in the United States, October is, among other things, Clergy Appreciation month. It was set aside as a month to recognize the contributions pastors make in the lives of their congregants. It’s also a chance to celebrate their families and the sacrifices that often come with experience in full-time ministry.

In thinking about appreciating our Clergy here in the States, we wanted to turn our eyes to Africa and Asia, where we are raising up men and women to preach the Gospel. While some may not bear the official title of “Pastor,” their contributions to their communities deserve to be recognized and highlighted. We wanted to highlight those efforts by giving you some ideas as to how you can appreciate your pastor this month, and ways that you can continue to pray for those With Open Eyes is raising up to proclaim the name of Jesus. The Journey to Become a Mobile Messenger

The words in Matthew 28 are often quoted. Before Jesus ascends, He gives His disciples a particular command:

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

This command to make disciples and preach all that Jesus has commanded in His Gospel is at the heart of our Mobile Messenger program. At With Open Eyes, we believe there is no one better equipped to reach the underserved and unreached peoples of our world than those who live and work in those specific communities. Our heart and mission are to come alongside these men and women in countries in Africa, India, and Nepal with resources to help them minister Jesus and His Gospel. Read more

A War, A Hope, and the Mobile Messengers in South Sudan

Today we have a guest post from Brad Hobbs. Brad shares his heart for the crisis in South Sudan and how the church here in America can help.

It is the summer of 2017. For South Sudan, it should be a season of great celebration and feasting to celebrate 6 years of independence from Sudanese rule.

Yet there is a significant problem.

For the past 48 months, South Sudan has been crippled by a civil war that has displaced 3.6 million of its citizens. The estimated 11 million who still live in the country face the constant threat of starvation, rebel invasion, and displacement.

It has been anything but a celebration of independence. Read more

Reaching Rwanda with the Gospel

Imagine a country with sloping mountains and a national park dedicated to volcanos, gorillas, and golden monkeys and you have just a small picture of Rwanda. Nestled between the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Burundi, and Tanzania, Rwanda has a big reputation for such a small country.

Over the years, this African nation has been the focal point of world news from devastating genocide to its most recent re-election of its president, Paul Kagame. It could be easy to assign Rwanda to only these news stories and ignore the great strides this country has made in the last two decades.

Those strides, in part, are due to a slow and subtle move among its people and has its roots in the Christian church. There are many missionaries and organizations that find work in Rwanda from the United States, providing help and aid. But some of the most powerful stories of hope and change are coming from pastors who call Rwanda home.

Pastors like Pastor Ananie. Read more

For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  ~ Hebrews 4:12
