Freedom in Christ

It’s overwhelming to think of God’s grace, mercy and redeeming love. He gives us free will to make choices, but when we veer off His path, He is there to pull us back onto it and help straighten our steps. No matter how far off we may get, His redeeming power and freedom of a living life in His will is available to us if we just cry out to Him and ask.

Jonah Mutiah Mbwanza is living proof of this. In January, a With Open Eyes ministry team travelled with Mobile Messengers to a maximum security prison just outside Nairobi, Kenya. One of the Mobile Messengers is a former prisoner of this same prison but goes there to do prison ministry and share the freedom found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. The team had the opportunity to go with the Mobile Messengers to tour the facility and were able to enter the Death Row courtyard to lead a time of worship and preaching with the inmates. They heard testimonies, sang, shared encouragement and prayed with many of those sentenced to death.

One of the inmates who was overwhelmed with God’s presence, sought out the Mobile Messengers requesting their blessing and prayer. He had been convicted and sentenced to death in 2006. His seven attempts for appeal had all been denied. He was without hope in the system, but his heart was filled with a new found hope in Christ. The Mobile Messengers embraced Jonah and prayed earnestly for a miracle in his life. They prayed for God’s favor and provision.

God heard and responded to their prayers. In May, Jonah had his sentence reduced to life and ultimately he was pardoned by Presidential Order. He set the prisoner free! That same weekend Jonah travelled to visit one of the Mobile Messenger’s church. This is what he shared.

“I want to thank the Almighty God who sends men and women to carry His Word and deliver it in due season. It was God who sent you to Kamiti Main to declare my release. God confirmed your prayer on 18th May, 2012. I have learned from the Pastor that you had concerns and prayers for my life, bless you indeed. My future plans is to preach the power of the Word of God to all creatures. The power which has opened doors for me from prison.”

God truly has the power to perform miracles and redeem each soul with his mercy, grace and perfect love. Please continue to pray for Mobile Messengers as they strive to reach the unreached, sharing the freedom found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!

Your ways, God, are holy.

What god is as great as our God?

You are the God who performs miracles;

    you display your power among the peoples.

With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

Psalm 77:13-15
