“Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalm 82:3-4 ESV
We kick-started 2013 by joining amazing local and global organizations along with over 400 attendees at the Ignite Justice Conference at Forest Hill Church in Charlotte, NC. The conference was an incredible opportunity for organizations like ours to come together to raise awareness together towards tackling the great social injustices happening in our communities and the world.
With Open Eyes had the opportunity to share about the mission of With Open Eyes and the great work the ministries we partner with are doing to care for their brothers and sisters around them facing extreme poverty, persecution as Christians, and genocide. Hundreds of people came by to hear about the lives of Mobile Messengers in the field, and catch just a glimpse through photographs and stories of where they go and what they do to share the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.
Conference Director, Michele Dudley said, “God has a plan. His plan involves YOU. Matthew 5:14 says “YOU are the light of the world.” God is not talking about Jesus – he is talking about YOU. YOU are His light and together we are God’s plan to break the chains of poverty, injustice and oppression.”
The event was emceed by Pastor Derwin Gray of Transformation Church and included keynote speakers such as Bianca Juarez Olthoff of A21 Campaign and Celestin Musekura of African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries (ALARM, Inc.). The speakers and organizations in attendance gave great ways for us all to take the next steps and continue towards helping create social justice in the world.
So what are your next steps? Here are a few ideas…
1. All can PRAY – Everyone can pray and seek direction towards their steps of putting compassion into action locally and globally, along with praying for those already in the field
2. Most can GIVE – A one-time or recurring gift to With Open Eyes helps provide Mobile Messengers appropriate transportation and other tools needed to reach the unreached and underserved peoples of the world
3. Some can GO – Serve in the field along-side Mobile Messengers
